We knew we couldn't pass up the opportunity, yet nothing could prepare us for the world we were entering. The local man in the picture, with the mosque in the background, belies the general anti-west sentiment of the Muslim world.

Many of the kids jumped at the chance to have their picture taken. The older folks were less enthusiastic.

The cleanest part of Dakar was around the Presidents Palace. These fellows flanked the sword bearing, colourful Palace guards who stood at the front gates.

Oceanium is located at the foot of the Presidents Palace, and overlooks the island of Goree. Goree is the island where the slaves were housed before being shipped to the New World.
